During the 2012 regular season, 11 NFL quarterbacks threw for more than 4,000 yards. Through the 2008 season, only two quarterbacks in league history had ever thrown for more than 5,000 in a single season — Dan Marino with 5,084 in 1984 and Drew Brees with 5,069 in 2008. Then, in 2011, Brees, Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford all threw for over 5,000 yards. Eli Manning just missed the mark with 4,933. Keep Reading…

Thursday huh? Only three more days. It seems like only days ago, I was cursing the TV as Media Day made the Super Bowl even more of a soap opera.

Randy Moss is the greatest receiver ever?

Ray Lewis loves deer?

Alex Smith … wait, did anybody talk to Alex Smith?

I’ll tell you what I didn’t get from media day, BETTING ADVICE! I mean let’s ask some questions that count! “Hey Harbaugh, are you guys going with heads or tails?” Not you, the other Harbaugh. “Hey Colin, you think you’ll run a lot? Specifically in the second quarter?” I mean, did the trainer even get a booth? Because I would really like to know what color Gatorade they were planning on stocking up! These are the kinds of questions that should have been asked.

J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans may be a beast on the field, but he has proved numerous times that off the field he is as kindhearted as it gets. The most recent of J.J.’s good moves was executed because of the magic of Twitter and his want to make a 6-year old not cry.

J.J. saw the below video featuring 6-year-old Breanna in tears because she knew she was too young to be his girlfriend. The clip had been making its way around YouTube very quickly even picked up over 90,000 views. Watt Tweeted out the following looking for the young lady.

Unlike Danny Glover getting sunscreen in his eyes in Angels in the Outfield, there are sure to be real tears across the country before the Super Bowl next Sunday. USA Today Sports confirmed today that the NFL will fly 26 students from Sandy Hook Elementary School and their families to the Super Bowl where they will perform America the Beautiful during the Super Bowl Pregame Show before the national anthem. The gesture commemorates and honors the victims of the horrific mass shooting that left 26 students and faculty of S.H.E.S. in Newtown, Conn. dead.

This moment before the Super Bowl is sure to be emotionally charged and a moving memorial. This beautiful gesture comes on the heels of a season where the entire league reached out to help the victims of this tragedy. Players throughout the league wore S.H.E.S. stickers on their helmets, wrote personal messages on their equipments, visited morning families, and hosted many families on the field to witness tens of thousands of people stand silently in a national show of support for a distraught community.

While the media buzzes around the biggest sporting event in the world and you read articles about how much money major corporations spend on Super Bowl ads, take a minute to reflect on this pregame moment. Remember why sport exists. It is not about money, or winning, the reason we all love sport, especially the NFL, is because it can take us away from the hurt in our lives and reminds us we are not alone in times of hardship.

The Super Bowl is about the parties almost as much as the focus on the game itself. Not only is there a week of fiestas leading up to the big game, but people often get together for viewing parties to watch the game. Even Plaxico Burress is getting in on the fun.
